What is SpamVertising?

SpamVertising is what I consider it when people abuse the communication systems within the social networks. SpamVertising is the messages about a business opportunity, tool or resource that you find in between the legitimate messages from your friends. SpamVertising happens when people use blogs, forums and group boards to post banners and ads without sharing in the discussion. SpamVertising irritates people the most when it happens to the comment board on their profiles.

Hi Rex,

I feel the same way, but I am afraid this is the wave of the future. Soon these social sites will be just as bad as the phone call that comes at dinner time wanting you to buy something or give to something.

As Carol stated, it does seem "the wave" of the social networking scene.

However, there are ways to protect yourself from spam in social networks.

If you receive a message from a new friend that is a blatant advertisement, do the following:
*In the message inbox, open the message, click on "block messages from this user".
*proceed to their profile and clik "remove or block friend".

Set your comment field to approve comments before they are posted, this will keep any ads
from appearing in your comment field without your permission. Go to your settings tab to
modify and make affective.

Be a little savy, if you receive a spam message, reply with resources they can use that is
can-spam compliant, such as list builders and safelists, text ad exchanges. While sharing
the proper way to advertise , you can gain recognition as a resourceful marketer as well as
guide a potential newbie to better success without the need to spam.

While it's difficult to get away from spammers, blocking these members and their messages
will empower you to control who you market with. Those who get blocked will either leave the
network or better...Learn to build relationships and become a better marketer.
