When you are online marketing, trying every way you can find to to get people to at least look at your products. First, How do you get anyone there to look at your pages, and second, do you think about how you would go about searching for what you are trying to sell?
Ya!
Put the shoe on the other foot for a minute!
Ok, you say.......no problem....... whoa! ... wait a minute. Sure you think you are thinking like a future customer............ but not yet.
You have the inside track!
You already know everything about your product (I hope!).
Your customer may not know a thing about it. This knocks out special search terms that only insiders know (unless you are selling to pros that use the product all of the time) which most online marketers don't do.
Getting the picture?
So you have to ask yourself these questions. Who will be looking for your product? Why are they looking for it? How will it help them?
Ok, now you have to answer them..... lol and write down your answers. (It helps to work with some friends here for other opinions)
Once you have an idea of who will be looking for your product you have an idea of who you will be targeting. This will tell you how to word your copy, what terms you can use ect.... This will be who you are selling to and by all means don't try to sell to everybody, it doesn't work!
Next you have decided these people have a problem or a need for your product. Write them down. Now you know exactly what your product is targeting.
Now write down all of the ways your product will help cure their problem or need. It will make this easier...... it will help that... ect... Everything you can think of.
Now you should have a bunch of search terms down on your paper (also a good start at a post or article!).
On a separate sheet of paper write down the best search terms you can come up with from your first paper, one per line.
To find the easiest search terms to rank with, you have to search each term to see how much competition there is. Do this with your favorite search engine or the one you are going to use depending on your target market. Over 1 million results...... heave the search term unless you really want it and have the time to work extra hard to get to page 1 with it. Go through all your terms, you may have to start over from a little different direction and don't worry if you only have a few, 2 or 3 highly targeted search terms with low competition is all you will need for now.
I always use the Google webmasters tools search term tool to check the search volume and competition, it tells a lot more than just a search. You can have a nice targeted low competition search term that no one ever searches for. Checking for search volume is not wasted research!
I now this seems like a lot of work! Once you have done it a couple of times its not bad.
Once you see the benefits......... You will spend even more time doing it for every post and article!
